JEF BANC
Chaque jour est ma naissance
October 12 - November 9, 2024
17 avenue bosquet, 75007, Paris
Galerie Chloé Perrin is excited to present “Chaque Jour est ma Naissance” (Every Day is My Birth), the first retrospective of the late French artist Jef Banc. Opening on October 12 and running through November 9, this exhibition offers a rare chance to explore the captivating work of an enigmatic artist who remains largely unknown to the public.
Born in Paris on September 6, 1930, Jef Banc dedicated his entire life to painting from 1950 onwards, in his secluded studio on rue de Clignancourt. Amidst the tumult of the pictorial revolution and the rise of lyrical abstraction, Banc’s oeuvre stands out for its profound exploration of life’s origins through recurring motifs such as spirals, slits, and cells. Despite his reticence towards the art world, Banc’s work had garnered the admiration of important patrons and critics, including Pierre Restany and Jean-Dominique Rey. Today his art is featured in public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Tate Modern in London.
